Midlothian Council has the best of both worlds – the buzz of the capital city close by and so too is the beauty of the Pentland Hills.

The council area has such an incredible mix. It runs from south of Edinburgh to the Borders, with its headquarters in Dalkeith –  and the reopening of the Borders Railway has given Midlothian a new link to Edinburgh.

The latest statistics show an average house price of £169,500; an increase of 5.3 percent on the year, with plenty of new building taking place, showing that Midlothian is an increasingly popular place to live – with many choosing to commute into the capital.

Midlothian has more than 30 primary schools and seven high schools: Newbattle High, Beeslack Community High, Dalkeith High, Lasswade High, Penicuik High, St David's RC High and Saltersgate (special education).

The council also runs the Midlothian Sport Centre, with the longest dry ski slope in Europe. You also have a staggering choice of country parks: Dalkeith Country Park, Gore Glen Woodland Park, Hillend Country Park, Pentland Hills Regional Park, Roslin Glen Country Park, Springfield Mill, Vogrie Country Park, and  Straiton Pond Local Nature Reserve.

Historic sites in Midlothian will take you from Iron Age Castlelaw Hilll Fort to the industrial splendour of the National Mining Museum - by way of the Rosslyn Chapel with all its Da Vinci Code novel and movie fame.

It is a mix that makes for a great place to live, work, further your career and raise a family.  If Midlothian looks good to you then, keep up-to-date with council jobs on offer here at HIJOBS.
