Job Description

Assisting the Librarian in the delivery of effective and efficient library, learning centre and information services that meet the needs of the community of Moray in accordance with Council policy.

Responsibilities Ensure high standards and consistent attention to customer care in respect of all customers and tasks. Effectively and efficiently supervise and carry out all service point routines to the agreed quality standards and contribute to effective timetabling of staff. Assist with enquiries, take and ensure appropriate action in regard to users requests. Assist customers in the use of library services, facilities and equipment. Contribute to the effective development and delivery of learning centre provision. Ensure that property and equipment are cared for in a proper manner and that any faults or damage are recorded and reported without delay. Ensure best care and usage of all stock. Ensure that the display of information materials is current, relevant, orderly and meets agreed policies. Contribute to and participate in the programme of events, courses, activities and promotion of materials. Ensure that the financial and administrative procedures of the Council are accurately complied with. Ensure the general safety and security of the building and that the necessary standards of Health and Safety are applied. Participate in training and development opportunities and carry out effective training of staff. The Individual Significant current public library experience Supervisory experience Diploma of ICT in Libraries or SVQ in Information & Library Services or equivalent ECDL Coaching Skills Effective organisational and time management skills Numerate Experience of training staff Knowledge of customer care requirements Attention to detail Self confident and self motivated Library materials knowledge Knowledge of public library /learning centre routines Experience of public library automated systems Ability to monitor routines Ability to support learners Knowledge of library information databases Capable of working unsupervised Effective customer care / people skills Leadership & example Teamworker Diplomacy Effective communication / presentation skills Willingness to accept direction/delegation Able to work flexibly to meet the needs and demands of the service
