The newly formed Department of Psychology, within the School of Health and Life Sciences is a dynamic and vibrant academic community with a strong track record of applied psychology provision that includes innovative teaching and learning research and knowledge transfer activities.
To support our continuing development, we are seeking to appoint a Professor of Applied Psychology who will contribute to the academic leadership and strategic development of the department. This will be achieved by providing academic leadership in the context of the current Doctorates in Psychology and the development and delivery of world-leading research linked to existing research groups, especially those linked to Public Health (see https://www.gcu.ac.uk/centreforliving/research/). We also expect the successful candidate to contribute to the enhancement of the student experience across the portfolio of Psychology programmes through classroom teaching and supervision. As a professorial appointment the successful candidate will be expected to play a significant role in enhancing GCU’s reputation as the University for the Common Good at a local, national and international level.
We are seeking to appoint an energetic and inventive individual with a forward thinking vision for leading and promoting psychology-informed research, learning and public engagement. The successful candidate will be a recognised expert of international standing in their area of applied psychology. They will have a track record of success in attracting research grants/external funding and delivering on externally-funded research projects. This will be complemented with credible plans for the active pursuit of future income generation and impactful dissemination activities. As a senior member of the Psychology and wider school team, the successful individual will contribute to the formulation and delivery of organisational strategy and objectives through the successful implementation of functional KPIs. They will show commitment to developing others in a positive way.
Applicants should be eligible for Chartered membership of the British Psychological Society and registration with the Health and Care Professions Council. We especially welcome applications from Health Psychologists and Sport & Exercise Psychologists.
