Kames Fish Farming has been growing Salmon smolts for major Salmon producers since the 1980's and are highly regarded for producing robust fish, which meet our customers expectations. The Salmon start their life at the Clachan hatchery, near Tarbert. The farm manager would be responsible for the growing of the fish from eyed ova to 25 grams.
The sites current owner will work with the succesful candidate to provide training and understanding of the farm for the first year. After which the farm manager will be given the oppurtunity to take full control of the site and maintain the high quality of fish that the farm is known for.
As part of the role, the farm manager will be expected to uphold and continue to improve the farms records and comply with Global GAP and RSPCA Assured standards.
A weekend rota is in place to ensure the health and growth of the fish at all times. The hatchery alarm system will be shared by the site owner and appointed farm manager.
Experiance in aquaculture is essential.
The sites staffing can vary from two people during quiet times, to five when moving fish. Experiance in leading a small team would be advantagious, but not essential as support will be given.
Due to the remote location of the area, a driving license is recommended. The following courses would be advantagious, but training will be provided where nescessary:-
- Rough terrain forklift
- Fish Welfare course
This position is a great oppurtunity for an experianced fish husbandry person or assistant site manager to run a farm of their own. After the completion of a 3 month probation period, the succesful candidate will take a long term approach to the position and focus on the improvement of the site infrastructure and fish welfare.
