Salary: £79,800 - £119,900 depending on skills and experience + car/cash allowance + annual bonus

Permanent | Full Time Hours with flexible working patterns available | 37 hours per week

Our Role

Reporting to the Head of SHE for SSEN, The Head of SHE Transmission will ensure that the Transmission business can successfully drive Safety, Health and Environment performance to deliver safe outcomes and meet SHE targets. This includes responsibility for: understanding SHE risks and opportunities, monitoring and assessing performance, ensuring SHE assurance processes are in place, ensuring that improvement programmes are in place to address short, medium and long-term priorities and that the SHE Function in Transmission is set up to support the business.

As a member of the Transmission leadership team, the Head of SHE Transmission will hold collective responsibility for developing strategy, setting targets and driving performance across Transmission to ensure its future success. This senior management position within the wider SHE Function also has responsibility for helping to shape the overall SSE SHE strategy and ensuring that it supports the delivery of safe outcomes and performance improvements in the Transmission Business unit.

Your Skills and Experience

To be successful in this role, you should hold a postgraduate qualification in Occupational Health & Safety Management and / or hold a scientific environmental, civil, electrical or mechanical engineering qualification or, substantial industry experience. You should have previous experience working within a high hazardous industry (i.e., Transmission and Distribution, Utility, offshore or petrochemical industry) and be willing to commit to supporting a 24/7 operational business. Furthermore, you'll have working knowledge of SHE regulations in the UK and Ireland in line with SSE business Environments.

You should also hold a NEBOSH qualification, equivalent safety qualification or hold a degree level qualification in an engineering discipline.

In addition to the above, you'll be able to demonstrate excellent communication, interpersonal and engagement skills with stakeholders at all levels and follow a proactive and tactful approach. Furthermore, you'll be a strategic thinker with the ability to balance keeping the overall organisational vision in mind with business needs and commercial and business objectives.

Due to the nature of this role a full, current driving license is essential.

Transmission operates under licence as Scottish Hydro Electric (SHE) Transmission plc, responsible for the transmission of electricity in the north of Scotland. We own and maintain the 132kV, 275kV and 400kV electricity transmission network in our licence area. Our network comprises of underground cables, overhead wooden poles, steel towers and electricity substations, and it extends over a quarter of the UK land mass across some of its most challenging terrain.
