Salary: Starting salary of £32,352 per annum (pro rata, 20 hours per week) plus a target bonus of 10%, 22.5 days annual leave and defined contribution pension scheme. Based on 20 hours per week the salary equates to £15,781

What does the role involve?

As a Part Time Cover Manager, you will cover the days off for a number of delivery managers. The role is all about leading and managing a team of delivery post people while they work at the Delivery Office – the first part of their day.  Your day will start just before their day starts and you will finish as they go out on delivery.  You will need to cover the key tasks that the Delivery Line manager would normally do during this part of the day.  You will have a fixed rota and so will know where you will be working in advance.

You will be responsible for making sure the delivery operation runs efficiently by motivating your team to improve performance and exceed targets.  Your ability to motivate, inspire and lead is what we’re really looking for.  You’ll provide coaching and advice and will have an eye for detail – all with a view to ensuring your team is working at its very best.

As well as effectively leading your team, you will also oversee key people, customer, efficiency and financial measures, and build relationships with trade union representatives. You’ll ensure your team understand the commercial and competitive market we are in and be customer focussed, open to new technology and flexible to change.

It’s a challenge, but we’ll provide you with thorough training and support to ensure that you have all the skills and knowledge you need to succeed. It takes more than organisational skills to be a manager. We’re looking for individuals with a passion for people.  


What skills and experience are we looking for?

We are looking for excellent leaders. Experience of the delivery operation is preferred but not essential.

Excellent communication skills and an understanding of the key performance measures are essential as you must be able to motivate frontline staff to manage and improve our people, customer, efficiency and financial measures.

You will have the ability to engage with your frontline team and lead changes within the offices. You will be flexible and able to hit the ground running as you will cover a different role each day.


As a Royal Manager you will be invited to attend our comprehensive, work and classroom based induction programme. This may require a short period of time staying away from home in the initial weeks of your time in role.
