When working as a playworker, having fun with children is a must!
You need to enjoy spending time with children because providing a high quality day care of children is your main task. We are asking you to be able to commit to the team and its priority: giving children amazing play opportunities in line with the regulation and best practice examples from Care Inspectorate.
Working in Out of School Care is not just 'watching children play' - we are asking you to support children in our care to reach their full potential through play and informal learning, to use agreed strategies and plans to give the children the right kind of support, and to put into practice all you know about child development, child psychology, wellbeing and playwork.
We expect you to be able to use your own initiative, communicate openly and honestly and be able to reflect on your practice and work.
The working pattern for this vacancy is to be;
After School Club - Monday 1.45pm-6pm, Tuesday to Friday 2.45pm-6pm.
Various hours during Holiday Club
As a playworker you will need to show commitment to your own learning and development. We are happy to support you in gaining relevant training and qualifications (SVQ2/3 Playwork). Working in this role will require a SSSC registration as a Support Worker or Practitioner in Day Care of Children register. This post will require you to have obtained SSSC registration within 6 months of employment
It would be beneficial if you had knowledge of GIRFEC and Care Inspectorate or had skills that may enhance the activities we offer to children. We definitely encourage you to apply if you already have childcare-related qualifications.
This post is regulated work with Children and/or Protected Adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. A confirmed offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.
