The role of the Early Years Lead Officer involves:Providing more children who face the greatest disadvantages with increased access to highly quality support. Providing additional support for those children who need it most in order to close the attainment gap. Help narrow the gap in cognitive development that opens up before children start primary school. Develop high quality relationships and interactions with children that promote wellbeing, and extend thinking and concept development. Contribute towards the wider programme of work in the ELC setting to reduce inequality. Manage ELC services open full year across a locality during school holiday periods, if required. The Individual
You must be Educated to SCQF level 9, which includes a Degree or equivalent, e.g. BA Childhood Practice or PDA Childhood Practice or a relevant teaching qualification (SCQF level 9) within the first period of registration. You must also be qualified to HNC / SVQ3 Early Learning and Childcare or equivalent (SCQF level 7).
Registration with SSSC at manager level (SCQF 9) (or achieve and maintain registration within 6 months of taking up post) is essential.
You must possess excellent leadership skills, demonstrate the ability to manage additional responsibilities, have extensive team working experience and be able to provide an efficient and effective service.
Extensive experience of statutory early years provision is essential, as well as significant knowledge of Curriculum for Excellence, Pre-Birth to Three and GIRFEC – national and local guidance.
Relevant knowledge of a broad and balanced understanding of children and childhoods is essential.
Experience in the development and implementation of plans and programmes for service users is required as well as excellent planning and organisation skills.
Significant experience of working with parents and families and report writing is essential, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
You should possess good IT skills and demonstrate the ability to negotiate and influence.
Before confirming appointment, you will be required to obtain Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme Membership through Disclosure Scotland for working with children.
