We are seeking an ambitious and experienced policy professional to lead the Council’s corporate and service level policy development function, ensuring it meets the strategic needs of senior officers and elected members. Key responsibilities of the function include leading local activities relating to data analytics and business intelligence, performance management, service improvement planning, policy and strategy development, best value, consultation and engagement and self-evaluation amongst others.
As a key senior officer, you will play an important role in supporting the delivery of the Council’s priorities, and it is critical that you can build collaborative and effective working relationships with other senior officers internally and with key partner agencies as part of this work.
It is essential that you have a degree or professional qualification in a relevant subject and/or ability to evidence equivalent level of knowledge, training and experience, and can demonstrate a track record of leading, developing and formulating strategy and policy within a similar organisation.
It is also essential you have knowledge of the Council’s key strategic policy priorities and current major strategic initiatives and strategic planning and policy development methodologies and the ability to manage and prioritise a complex programme of work involving project, cyclical and ad-hoc elements and deliver to demanding timescales. Y
ou must also have a proven track record of successfully managing a team of staff delivering strategic support services within a service and/or corporate environment.
The role will appeal to an individual with a strong grasp of local government policy, with a passion for public service and the opportunity to improve the quality of life for those served by the Council.
