The purpose of this job is to undertake the “Aberdeen Harbour Board Collection: Navigating Aberdeen’s History” cataloguing and public engagement project by cataloguing the records of Aberdeen Harbour Board (c1795-1960) and engaging a wide range of audiences with this significant collection in new and transformative ways.
As part of the closely-knit team caring for Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire Archive’s UNESCO-recognised collection, the post holder will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, an eye for detail and the ability to work on their own initiative.Requirements
The post holder needs to hold as a minimum:
Qualification at degree level in a subject related to the Archive collections or equivalent experience.
Recognised post graduate qualification in Archive and Records Administration.Responsibilities
Demonstrate skills and experience in:
Experience of working in the archive sector with good knowledge of Scottish history.
IT skills, particularly experience with ‘Calm-Axiell’ cataloguing software and Microsoft applications.
Able to demonstrate knowledge of archive cataloguing, storage and exhibition standards.
Able to demonstrate a good understanding of the issues involved in the storage and exhibition of archives.
Able to demonstrate appropriate handling techniques for archival materials.
Able to demonstrate good verbal communication skills and excellent writing skills in English, including the ability to present information accurately and in a manner accessible to diverse audiences.
Able to handle information, records and statistics accurately and efficiently.
Well organised approach to work with an ability to work successfully to deadlines and prioritise tasks effectively.
Ability to work as part of a team or on own initiative.
Sound knowledge of archival practice, current issues and trends.
Experience of cataloguing large/complex archive collections.
Continuous professional development in relation to the City Council’s systems and wider cultural sector practice.
