Salary: negotiable up to £40,000 per annum (DoE)

Job Type: full-time permanent however may consider flexible working arrangement or part-time hours 

 

Sealladh na Beinne Mòire, a company limited by guarantee, was established to purchase the 93,000 acre South Uist Estate on behalf of the community in 2006.  It is the parent company of South Uist Estates Ltd, an asset owning company, which in turn operates three trading companies, namely Stòras Uibhist Ltd; Lochboisdale Development Ltd; and South Uist Renewable Energy Ltd.  As a membership organisation its remit is to deliver social and economic regeneration for the islands of Benbecula, Eriskay and South Uist. 

Stòras Uibhist has grown substantially since its inception in 2006 and is now a respected delivery agent for a growing variety of complex projects.  This growth has brought about significant challenges and opportunities. To maintain growth momentum, there is a need to appoint a Company Accountant, with the appropriate qualifications and experience, combined with a proven performance record, to work with the CEO and the Senior Management Team to drive the business forward.

 

You will be a highly motivated individual with a proven track record in the accounting profession.  Experience gained in the renewable energy market (wind turbines) is desirable but is not essential.  Specifically, you will be required to evidence, in addition to relevant accounting experience, business acumen, excellent written and verbal communication skills, high level numeracy and interpersonal skills.  You will be required to work collaboratively with the CEO and Senior Management Team to establish and maintain excellent and productive relationships with the community, funding bodies and associated partner and stakeholder organisations. 

 

The key responsibilities for the role are as follows:-

 

Financial Management and Reporting

You will provide professional and management advice relating to all financial matters, contributing to best value in the utilisation of financial resources, within a framework of proper accounting practice and relevant legislative and statutory requirements.

 

Taking a leading role in respect of financial management, business planning and accounting services, duties will include budget preparation and monitoring, assistance in completing statutory accounts and statistical returns, provision of financial support and reporting to the CEO and Board. 

 

In addition, you will be required to support the Senior Management Team in the development and maintenance of effective financial controls, the implementation of policy and legislative changes and provision of financial support to major projects, developments and initiatives.  In undertaking these tasks, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations and schemes of financial delegation.

 

You will have experience and understanding of core cyclical accounting activities and excellent analytical skills.  Additionally, the key duties of the post will require comprehensive knowledge of modern software packages and on-line financial systems, along with the ability to work as a member of a team, including participation in working groups and project teams. 

 

The post requires a qualified or near qualified accountant with practical work experience within an accounting environment.  Knowledge and experience of the renewable energy market (wind turbines), the local government environment and the ability to proactively research issues is desirable, but not essential.  A commitment to lifelong learning, development and continuous improvement combined with a flexible approach and willingness to travel must be demonstrated.

 

You will work closely with the current finance team and will play a key role in their continuing personal development and career progression.
