The Service is seeking to appoint a Trainee Trading Standards Officer.
The successful applicant should have a minimum of three Highers, or equivalent, including Maths and English. One science subject at National 5/Standard Grade Credit level or equivalent.
A degree in law, business related or science based subject is desirable, but not essential.
The applicant will be required to complete and pass the Chartered Trading Standards Institute Professional Competency Framework.
The applicant will assist and support the Trading Standards Services staff in the various areas of work including inspections, complaints, service requests and investigations whilst undertaking the Trading Standards Practitioner Certificate (TSPC) qualification. On gaining the TSPC the applicant will be authorised to carryout appropriate enforcement duties under the legislation enforced by Trading Standards Service (salary will be adjusted accordingly) whilst continuing to train and gain the Trading Standards Practitioner Diploma (TSPD)
Applicants should have excellent communication skills and be motivated to make a difference for consumers and businesses. You will also have excellent organisational skills and good IT skills.
You should be able to demonstrate that you can manage a workload being able to prioritise and organise.
It is desirable that you have experience of working with the general public, report writing and of providing effective presentations.The Individual
These vacancies are restricted to applicants who currently live in Fife. You must also be aged between 16 and 24 as at the Date of Interview.
This role will require you to work towards a Diploma in Trading Standards (DTS) or equivalent Diploma in Consumer Affairs and Trading Standards (DCATS) qualification which includes Weights and Measures, and at least 2 other modules.
Before confirming appointment, you will be required to obtain Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme membership through Disclosure Scotland and become a member of the relevant PVG scheme.
