2 x 27.5 hours per week, Fixed Term until 16 August 2020, salary pro rata to hours per week and weeks per year.

The key duties of this post are:

To work with and support school pupils in a range of situations whilst working as part of a school team, under the direction of the class teacher, to support the learning and teaching; To support pupil learning, organisation of resources to support learning through the school and carry out duties relating to pupil support. To support pupils' learning by promoting an ethos of achievement through the development of positive working relationships.

The skills and experience you must have are:

The ability to work with pupils with a range of additional support needs; Good communicational and interpersonal skills; The ability to be flexible in your approach to challenging situations. SSSC registration (or must be obtained within six months of appointment)

St Kentigern’s Academy is a Catholic secondary school situated in Blackburn, West Lothian. The school has ten associated primary schools drawing a comprehensive mix of students and serves the communities of Blackburn, Whitburn, Bathgate, Armadale, Linlithgow, Fauldhouse, West Calder, Polbeth, Stoneyburn and Addiewell. The current school roll is 1220 Students with 90 members of teaching staff including those designated to support students with additional learning needs. The school’s free meal entitlement (FME) for session 2017/18 was 19.1%.

St Kentigern’s Academy has an excellent reputation in the local community, particularly for the high standards of conduct and confidence displayed by students. In addition to the formal curriculum, a wide range of extra-curricular and out-of-hours activities are on offer. The school receives a high level of support and encouragement from parents. Attendance at parents’ evenings is good, and information and consultation exercises are well supported. The school has also just had a successful HMIe visit.

This position requires registration with the SSSC. The successful candidate will have six months from commencement in this post to register with the SSSC.

This post is considered Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. Preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made by West Lothian Council.
