About the Department
SSE Power Distribution, part of the SSE group, owns and operates two electricity distribution networks and one transmission network, comprising some 123,000 substations and 127,000km of overhead lines and underground cables, distributing electricity to 3.5 million homes and businesses in the North of Scotland and Southern England.
What is the Role?
As Asset Systems Specialist, you will provide specialist technical knowledge for operation and continuous improvement of our Asset Management related systems, to ensure that SSEN can provide accurate, consistent and timely data relating to Asset Management; in particular the Maximo, outputs of CBRM/CNIAM and CHIME systems internally and externally.
This will involve continuous development of the system, ensuring that all asset data records including inspection, maintenance and follow up defect rectification, flow through to the relevant asset systems in order to deliver to the goals set out in the asset strategy.
You will be responsible for technically leading teams engaged in improvement projects and programmes, chairing meetings and workshops as well as proactively managing stakeholders, risks and issues and leading third parties including internal resources to project delivery.
A key deliverable will be in providing clear, concise data that will impact key performance indicators; utilising KPIs to demonstrate the effectiveness of the asset systems, outcomes/scenario modelling of investment impacts and raise awareness of value adding / risk mitigating services.
You will provide the business with effective reporting from CBRM and related systems to provide timely and accurate performance indicators and information on emerging trends within the asset data. Thus, improving our investment planning portfolio and aiding outperformance of our regulatory settlements and Stakeholder expectations. As a key licence requirement of our business, you will also play a key part in the annual Ofgem secondary deliverables reports.
What do I need?
Experienced in a similar role, you will have strong operational knowledge of the CBRM, CNIAM models as well as Maximo, CHIME desktop and mobile applications; you will also be familiar with data flows between systems and their impacts. As an analytical thinker and natural problem solver, you will be aptly skilled to handle the complex and often unbounded engineering and optimisation options that arise from the use of CNIAM, and will have the ability to understand, create and test models and hypothesis in order to gain maximum value from it.
You will have a good understanding of the electrical power systems (transmission and distribution networks) as well as SSEs operating model, its needs and how it is funded. A strong grasp of the regulatory context that the systems are being delivered into will be vital and working within a tightly regulated framework, you will need to remain alert to options, opportunities, threats and areas of non-compliance in the past, present and future.
An excellent communicator (both verbal and written), you will have first class interpersonal skills and will be able to liaise with individuals at all levels both internally and externally. You will also be perceptive with an in-depth appreciation of commercial sensitivities affecting system stakeholders.
