SSE Renewables is the UK and Irelands leading renewable energy company. Our aim is to be the largest and most efficient developer of onshore and offshore wind in the UK and Ireland. In order to contribute to a low carbon future, we have committed to treble our current Renewables output by 2030.
SSE has set a target of tripling Renewable generation output to 30TWh by 2030. A significant proportion of this capacity will be contracted through highly competitive processes or auctions in UK&I as well as internationally. Delivering continued bid success will be crucial for delivering the renewables growth strategy and achieving the target generation output. Key wins in our market are dependent on highly innovative approaches to adding value to projects and bids in sectors where contracted price for Renewables continues to sharply fall.
The role will work in the SSE Renewables bid team, reporting and deputising for the Bid Director, working across markets (UK&I) and technologies (Offshore and Onshore) to deliver competitive and commercially robust bids. This key role will be responsible for leading and driving all bid activities for allocated bids in the Renewables portfolio from hand over from development team through to bid award.
This is a highly demanding role where in-depth understanding of Renewables sector, project economics and value drivers and developing successful bid strategies is paramount. The role holder will be able to provide strategic context to bid decisions and think innovatively to develop winning bid strategies and drive value improvement across these bids.
This is a critical role and an exciting opportunity to join the SSE Renewables Capital Projects team based in Glasgow in supporting the SSE Renewables strategy.
Skills & Experience
You will have extensive experience as Bid Manager with significant involvement of operating successfully in a large corporation, preferably involved in the Renewable Energy sector.
Practical knowledge of bid methodology and processes from sales pursuit to post-award activities with significant experience in cross-business, high value bids exceeding £10m is highly desirable.
Demonstrable leadership skills to drive the work of collaborative virtual teams in planning, designing and delivering solicited proposals and tender responses is required. You'll have strong people management skills with the ability to motivate and coach bid teams.
Strong interpersonal and persuasion skills and the gravitas to engage with senior colleagues to meet challenging bid goals will aid you greatly in this position.
You will have brilliant technical writing skills and prior knowledge of generating compelling proposal content. Furthermore, confidence in the use of software packages to aid in the creation and maintenance of complex documentation is required.
Ideally you will have operated successfully within a matrix management structure combined with a successful track record of operating across vertical business markets.
Finally, an excellent knowledge of the industry best practice required to create high quality tender responses for large, sophisticated customers with multi-service requirements.
