This is a great opportunity for a selfmotivated individual to gain practical experience of wet grassland management. We are a small, resourceful and highly motivated team focused on creating and maintaining high quality wet grassland for breeding waders. The Nene Washes attract large numbers of wintering wildfowl including whooper and Bewick swans. We also have important populations of breeding cranes, spotted crake and garganey, and the largest population of black-tailed godwits in the country.

The role of the assistant warden is predominantly outdoors, practical and seasonal. It involves the handling and general husbandry of approximately 700+ cattle, the use of tractors and heavy machinery for grassland topping and undertaking wetland and breeding bird surveys over 900ha of wet grassland.

Our breeding black-tailed godwits will be a strong focus for the successful applicant, on the front line of implenting our management targets to promote the success of this important population. The post is 50% funded by LIFE Project Godwit, and you will be working closely with the team undertaking research into this rare UK breeding bird.

Our ideal candidate will have a good understanding of wet grasslands and associated species, be independent and resourceful, and enjoy spending the majority of their time in the great outdoors. An understanding and experience of working with livestock would be adventageous. The operation and maintenance of tractors and implements would also be desirable for this exciting opportunity.
