Argyll College UHI is one of 13 partners of the University of the Highlands and Islands, delivering both further education and higher education courses.  This enables us to offer our students the complete learner journey from access level right through to postgraduate study.  We are now looking to appoint a Student Counsellor and Wellbeing Service Co-ordinator, the aim of this post is to mprove student mental health and wellbeing and support the student experience resulting in improved educational outcomes for students.

The successful candidate will be expected to provide consultation, assessment and individual counselling sessions for enrolled college students who require assistance with personal issues, along with assessing and managing risk to individuals and following College safeguarding procedures accordingly. In addition to this you will develop resources and support front line college staff in their work to support students with mental health issues.  A further requirement of the role will be to develop and co-ordinate external resource to ensure opportunities of access across all centres.

This post will be based in our Oban Campus but the successful candidate will also provide support and counselling to students in our other college campuses by various alternative methods of remote delivery such as Skype, online and telephone counselling.  Some travel may also be required as part of this role.

The counsellor must hold a professional qualification in Counselling (e.g. PG Diploma or equivalent). Accreditation with BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) or equivalent is also essential.   You must be prepared to undertake a qualification to deliver online counselling if you do not already have this.

Salary: £26,970.25 per annum (pro-rata).

Working Hours: From start date, you will be required to work 21 hours per week until w/c 15th June 2020, to set up the service.  

You will not be required to work from w/c 22nd June to w/c 17th August 2020 inclusive.

From w/c 24th August 2020, the hours will reduce to 14 hours per week.

This post is Fixed Term to June 2021 with the potential to extend dependant on funding.

The successful applicant will be subject to an application to join Disclosure Scotland Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme.
