Heritage Officer - 28 hours per week post.
The project evolved from the work of the heritage volunteers at Oban Communities Trust (OCT) and the wider community’s desire to see “History / Heritage” as a core theme in The Rockfield Centre. It will be delivered in a B Listed, former primary school deeply rooted within the history of the town of Oban. This post vacancy at The Rockfield Centre provides a unique opportunity to inspire engagement with heritage through the delivery of an exciting new project which will offer activity to all ages and stages of life.
The Officer post will co-ordinate the delivery of “An t-Òban - The People and The Place” on a daily basis with overarching responsibility for the implementation of the project activities delivery plan and project outcomes.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the
Co-ordination and creation of the bespoke area using interactive engagement telling the story of the town, community, and natural heritage from the Ice Age to the present day - shoreline, caves, sea, shops, trades and the people who have made Oban their home.
Co-ordination and deliver of the project plan to meet output requirements- enabling young and old to interact, learn and develop skills through engagement.
Co-ordination and support to volunteers with the establishment of the quieter “Look Listen and Research” area which will enable the safe preservation of collections; oral recordings; a rolling programme of locally generated/touring exhibitions and access to external online resources.
