The busy modern RAS hatchery at Lochailort will incubate up to 12million eyed egg per year and has four on-growing recirculation units producing between 600 > 800 tons of smolt’s and parr each year in four separate batches. The hatchery has the latest fish grading, vaccination and counting equipment and a proven water disinfection system that ensure the hatchery maintains a disease free status.
Recirc is a fairly new area within aquaculture, which opens for the opportunity to be a part of directly influencing this part of the industry. We are now looking to recruit an experienced and motivated candidate that has a desire to be involved in innovation and evolving recirculation technology.
Role and responsibility
Overall responsibility for the hatchery facility and ensure that the highest standards of hygiene, quality and health and safety are applied with regard to staff, stock and equipment on site.
Manage husbandry activities and stock quality and quantity targets.
Responsible to ensure egg/Alvin incubation and production is done efficiently and in line with company policies.
Overall responsibility of the stock from egg to smolt as well as ensuring grading, vaccinating and transport of stock is done efficiently and in line with company procedures and policies.
Ensure that all aspects of fish health are properly monitored and action taken where necessary.
Responsible for regular and accurate reporting of production information in accordance with company procedures.
Line management responsibility for 15 staff, including staff development and training.
Develop annual production plans and financial budgets.
Ensure adherence to Mowi Health & Safety and environmental Impact policies.
Manage the operation such that a sustainable production cost is maintained.
Qualifications and skills
Qualified to a degree level in an Aquaculture subject or equivalent and/or ability to demonstrate experience in a similar managerial role.
Previous experience in managing a large-scale RAS facility will be an advantage.
Ability to supervise and coach staff, develop safety protocols and a proactive approach to ensure a safe working environment.
Good leadership skills and the ability to motivate and develop a strong team is essential.
Excellent computer and communication skills is essential.
Ability to demonstrate attention to detail and an proactive approach to problem solving.
Organizational and planning skills is essential.
Willingness to work flexible to meet the demands of the job.
Driving license essential.
