The Electrical Engineer is responsible to the Senior Technical Engineer and is part of a multi disciplinary team of maintenance personnel within Marine and Air Operations. You are responsible for undertaking a range of maintenance on all Ferries and terminals operated by the Shetland Islands Council. The main areas of work include overhaul and maintenance of plant whilst vessels are out of service, in annual refit or whilst in temporary layup. In carrying out this role all members of the team must be fully aware of all operational requirements, restrictions, regulations and the Council's approved Safety Management System (SMS). The post holder is required to be on call for periods of time.
Specific duties include:To undertake maintenance, repair or replacement of plant whilst vessels are at refit or are out of service. This will involve working with and to the procedures contained within the MCA approved SMS. To conduct electrical maintenance and upkeep of linkspans, associated hydraulics, their control systems, and other ferry terminal plant. To regularly liaise with contractors, suppliers and other marine personnel associated with the electrical works, equipment and parts. To keep inspection records of all plant and equipment, write reports on overhauled items and maintain other documentation as necessary. Completion of work orders and documentation as generated by the Maintenance Management System. To assist in breakdown maintenance at short notice, disrupting the service as little as is practicable.
