An exciting opportunity has arisen for an advanced pupil support worker to become part of our innovative 0-18 Inclusion and Wellbeing Service within the additional support needs sector across West Lothian. This role will include opportunities to support both primary and secondary pupils due to the unique cross-sector approach of the Inclusion and Wellbeing Service.

The service is led by a Head Teacher and three Depute Head Teachers who oversee the three strands of our service model: IWS Connolly School Campus, IWS Early Intervention Teams and IWS Secondary. The service consists of 68 multi-skilled practitioners who work across all 66 primary schools and 11 secondary schools in West Lothian along with our own specialist centres at Connolly School Campus and our Skills Centre. The service supports over 600 children with a wide range of additional support needs from 0-18 including: sensory needs; autistic spectrum needs; social, emotional and/or emotional needs; attention deficit and hyperactivity needs; mental health needs; interrupted learning issues; looked after children and children and young people with learning needs.

The approach of the Inclusion and Wellbeing Service promotes the ‘presumption of mainstream’ as well as supporting children and young people who require a more therapeutic approach to their wellbeing. The successful candidate will support the vision for the service and implement strategies to achieve this vision. The key post comes at an exciting and challenging time for education in the service. Under the direction of the designated teacher, the postholder will work with and support school pupils by undertaking a range of activities relating to the general supervision, safety, care and wellbeing of pupils.

The postholder will act as a facilitator for the full participation and integration of children and young people with social, emotional and behavioural needs.

This position requires registration with the SSSC. The successful candidate will have six months from commencement in this post to register with the SSSC.

This post is considered Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. Preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made by West Lothian Council.
