Roads and Environmental Services - Fleet
37 hours per week, Monday – Thursday 8.00am - 4.00pm, Friday 8am - 3.30pm, Saturday 8.00am - 4.00pm (where on the rota)
£27,658 - £30,310 (including Distant Islands Allowance and Shift Allowance)
We are looking for a Garage Mechanic to join our team of Garage Mechanics at the Council’s Hatston Garage. The work is varied and can cover the maintenance and repair of heavy and large goods vehicles, some of which are specialist in nature as well as light vehicles and plant. Experience in auto electrics, hydraulics, diagnostics and fabrication work as well as completing vehicle safety inspections would be an advantage, although training will be given for the right applicant.
You will be self-motivated and have a proven ability of using your initiative to ensure tasks are completed safely and on time.
You should be trained and certified in mechanical engineering by a recognised body such as City and Guilds,SQA or SCOTVEC
A ‘B’ class (car) driving licence is essential and a ‘C’ class LGV driving licence is desirable.
A shift allowance payment is included in the salary and generous holiday and pension entitlement. You will be required to work on Saturdays on an approved rota, generally one in three weeks, although this may change at times to suit workload demands. Each time you work on a Saturday you will get a week day off, agreed in advance.
The person appointed must be able to undertake standby duties as required. This will involve out of hours working, for which an appropriate overtime or standby payment will be made.
