We currently have a vacancy for a permanent Surgical Secretary post to provide comprehensive secretarial and administrative support to a group of 3 Consultant Surgeons.

We are seeking an efficient, competent and self-motivated team player. The Surgical Secretary plays an essential role in ensuring a smooth transition of administrative work to support the surgical team and patients.

You should possess excellent secretarial, organisational and communication skills with the ability to prioritise your workload ensuring that strict deadlines are met. You should also possess fast, accurate touch typing skills and be proficient with Microsoft Word.  Previous secretarial experience is essential; knowledge of medical terminology/medical secretarial experience is preferable.  

In addition to secretarial duties you will be responsible for organising and arranging inpatient and outpatient waiting lists within general surgery and endoscopy in line with Treatment Time Guarantee. It is desirable that you have a good understanding of waiting list guarantees and cancer tracking targets although training will be given.

Attention to detail whilst recording data on various computer databases is essential.

You are required to have good written and oral communication skills in order to perform this role safely and effectively and the ability to perform under pressure.

You should be educated to a level of SVQIII / HNC in office administration or equivalent or have relevant experience.
