Position: Hostel Assistant

Locations: Edinburgh Central Youth Hostel, 9 Haddington Place, Off Leith Walk, Edinburgh, EH7 4AL

Contract: Permanent

Hours per week: 32 hours

Pay: £8.91 per hour

Accommodation: This is a live-out post.

 

Who we are:

Hostelling Scotland is a not-for-profit charity with over 60 youth and affiliate hostels. This year we are celebrating our 90th year. Since 1931, we have welcomed millions of visitors through our doors, helping them to ‘get outside’, to explore what Scotland got to offer, discovering the beautiful locations and the natural benefits of the great outdoors.

As a non-profit charity with people and communities at our heart, we also give people, who otherwise wouldn’t have the opportunity, the chance of a well needed break to explore and experience Scotland or to develop their skills for life, learning and work through our youth programmes.

About the role of Hostel Assistant:

We are looking for an individual who is passionate about providing first class customer experience whilst contributing to synergy in achieving network wide success.

Reporting to General Manager, you will be part of our dedicated and friendly team, providing excellent customer service, full reception service, check-in/out, handling customer enquiries, cleaning and housekeeping and basic catering duties.  Full details of job description is available on our website.

Ideally you will have:

-        Worked successfully in a customer facing role, preferably in similar hospitality surroundings with commitment to excellent customer service

-        Excellent, confident communication skill and ability to work as team and without supervision.

-        Ability to multitask with flexible and adaptable approach to work to changing workload and priorities during busy times

-        IT literacy and keen attention to details.

You will be trained in all areas of hostel assistant duties and will rotate through a variety of shifts to ensure everyone is capable of covering the various aspects of the hostel operations.

Additional Information:

-        The role involves some degree of physical activities associated with housekeeping such as bed making of bunk beds with upper and lower beds.

-        All successful candidates are required to provide one satisfactory reference, a recent Basic Disclosure clearance and evidence of their right to work in the UK.
