Manson & MacBeath Funeral Directors are Fort William and Lochaber’s leading funeral directors. Due to expansion, we now have a rare and exciting opportunity for a trainee funeral director to join our team.

You will be caring and compassionate with excellent interpersonal and listening skills. A keen eye for small detail is essential along with high levels of proficiency in administration and use of computers.
You must be organised and have the ability to quickly re-prioritise your work according to the immediate needs of families or the business. You will have high standards of professionalism, be smart in appearance, act with dignity and respect and be willing and able to go the extra mile.


JOB DESCRIPTION & REQUIRMENTS
Core working hours, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm and Saturday and evening working when required. Participation in the Company on call rota out with normal office hours, on evenings and weekends (additional overtime rate provided for call outs)


Physical fitness and strength and the ability to assist and take part in the conveyance of the deceased when required. Organise and conduct funeral services at various crematoria and cemeteries around Scotland. Provide a confidential, sensitive and caring service at all times.
Anticipate and understand the individual needs of families from different social and cultural backgrounds and faiths. Support our team in any capacity when required – this could be anything from driving our vehicles on funerals to assisting in the conveyance of a deceased from place of death. Support the team’s needs and personal development. Cleaning, maintaining and fueling our fleet of cermonial vehicles and funeral support vehicles. 


Play an active role within the community, building strong relationships with people and acting as a trusted and well-respected ambassador for Manson & MacBeath Funeral Directors. Liaise with funeral support staff to ensure everyone is clear about their roles and responsibilities on funerals.
Attend training courses or events as part of your continuing personal development.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING
A full UK Driving Licence. A pride in your appearance. 
Previous experience in the same role or alternatively, a background in which you have worked as part of a team, in a caring environment or had experience working with the general public. A can-do attitude combined with a caring nature and the ability to cope under pressure.


An appreciation that you only get one chance to get things right. The ability to listen, understand and accurately capture and share vital details to help make each funeral uniquely special. The ability to work effectively both on your own and as part of a team and be respectful at all times to our families and your work colleagues. Abide by our strict "No Smoking at Work Policy". 


An understanding that the demands of the business may require you to change your place of work at short notice to accommodate staff absence. Organisational skills and IT competency, with experience of using Microsoft Office applications. Using your people skills to manage staff effectively.


Working with us can be quite a balancing act. On the one hand, it’s tough. On the other it’s incredibly rewarding. Providing practical, hands-on care for the deceased of all ages and circumstances calls for high levels of understanding, empathy and compassion. Working alongside the deceased and their grieving relatives at times of high emotion and pressure isn’t for everyone. It takes a cool head and a warm heart, so please think carefully before you apply.
