Salary is £10.03 per hour 

Various shift patterns available:

  • Housekeeping (32.5 hours per week) Monday to Friday 13:30 - 20:00
  • Housekeeping (13 hours per week) Saturday & Sunday 13:30 - 20:00
  • Domestic (20 hours per week) Monday to Friday 16:00 - 20:00


The Domestic Assistant will play a pivotal role in ensuring patient satisfaction in the hospital. Component parts of the role will include the delivery of cleaning, catering and housekeeping services to an agreed schedule within clinical areas and departments to ensure a safe patient environment. Domestic staff will be flexible and can be either allocated to a ward or department areas or to geographical areas. Their responsibilities are to undertake cleaning duties in a safe manner meeting the NHS Scotland National Cleaning Specification standards, the National Infection and Prevention Control Manual and Food in Hospitals – National Catering and Nutrition Specification for Food and Fluid Provision in Hospitals in Scotland.


Key duties will include patient client care as you will play an important role in patient recovery with respect to the social interaction with patients, engaging empathetically with patients, visitors and other hospital users. You will also support Ward Housekeepers with catering activities such as delivering meal trays to patients and offering beverages to patients within agreed timescales.


What you’ll need to do the role

Ideally you will have some cleaning experience and understanding of infection control and COSHH guidance. This is such an important role as you are ensuring patient cleanliness and safety, so as much as this role is extremely rewarding, we appreciate the Hospital environment may not be for everyone, so having a passion for working within a healthcare environment is key!
