Early Learning and Childcare Manager

17.5 hours per week
£33,343 - £37,230 / £37,741 - £40,460 pro rata (including Distant Islands Allowance)

We are looking for an experienced and highly skilled early years practitioner to be the manager of Dounby nursery. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the expansion of Early Learning and Childcare in Orkney.

You will have experience of working in a nursery and have experience of leading aspects of early years practice and development. Your role will involve managing a nursery team and working with the Local Authority Early Years’ Service.

The post will be for 52 weeks per year and will involve working different patterns over the week to accommodate a wrap-around service and later, a year-round service. There may also be times when you support colleagues in other Orkney settings.

You will join a small group of new managers and senior practitioners, and will be able to access development and training for your role.

To be appointed at G10:
You should hold a Degree in Childhood Practice, or other relevant qualification to meet the SSSC criteria as a Manager/Lead Practitioner in a Day Care of Children Service.

To be appointed at G9:
You should hold a qualification that meets the requirements of the SSSC as a Practitioner in Day Care of Children Service (minimum of HNC or SVQ3) and are required to achieve a relevant qualification to meet SSSC criteria as a Manager/Lead Practitioner in a Day Care of Children Service within 3 years of taking up the post. There will be support given to gain the qualification if you do not already have this.

Applicants should be able to travel efficiently and effectively between various work locations within Orkney, to meet the operational requirements of the Service.

This post is subject to membership of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme in respect of regulated work with children.
