Systems and Support Officer
35 hours per week
Temporary for a period up to 2 years
£29,857 to £32,850 (including Distant Islands Allowance)
We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic individual to join the Revenues and Benefits Service, within the Council’s Finance Service at the Council Offices in Kirkwall.
We are a small team carrying out a number of important functions, including collecting rents, Council Tax and Non-Domestic Rates, deciding and awarding welfare benefits, providing advice and preventing fraud or error from entering the system.
This is a new post and is temporary for up to two years. The responsibilities of the postholder will include providing the service with systems development and administration, and business intelligence and analytics. The postholder will be required to adapt and improve our existing business intelligence processes, and design and implement new processes to meet the needs of the service.
We are looking for someone who is educated to SCQF level 9, i.e. degree, SVQ4, in a relevant discipline. You should also either hold the IRRV Certificate/Technician qualification or be willing to work towards achieving this within 2 years of commencing in the post. The service will support the postholder to gain qualifications where required.
Experience of working in a Revenues and Benefits role, a software administration and development role, an IT Support role, or a project management role, would be desirable.
Applicants should have the ability to travel efficiently and effectively between various work locations in Orkney to meet the operational requirements of the Service.
The postholder will be eligible to join the Local Government Pension Scheme which is a career average revalued earnings (CARE) defined benefit scheme for which the employer contribution paid is currently 17.6% representing a benefit from £5,180 to £5,902 in addition to the salary paid.
