Job Description

Based in Foresters House which offers residential support to care experienced young people, you will work full time, 37 hours per week. The working pattern for these posts is currently based on a 10 week rota incorporating a 2 shift pattern of early shifts and late shifts. We are in the process of revising our rotas with a potential of moving to a 3 shift pattern to include waking nights.

Salary for this post will be Unqualified £21,453 - £23,421and Qualified £23,421 - £26,354.

You will have 3 National 4s, or equivalent and will have the ability to undertake HNC and SVQ3 or any other relevant qualification which provides evidence of academic achievement equivalent to or above SCQF Level 7.


You will assist in the creation and maintenance of a high quality care environment in which children and young people are offered safety and security to grow, to help children and young people to make use of services and information as appropriate to their full advantage and to assist in the promotion of effective communication by and with children and young people to this end.

We require people who are motivated and who want to make a difference to the lives of young people accommodated by Dundee City Council.

The Individual

You require an understanding of young people’s needs, the issues affecting them as individuals and the issues affecting them in a group living setting. On a daily basis you need to facilitate their care plans and offer them the necessary support and encouragement to help them reach their potential.

You will have effective communication skills, both written and verbal, good interpersonal skills.

You have to be flexible and a team player, as you will work as part of a team dedicated to giving young people a high standard of care whilst promoting their independence and safety.

You will have the ability to be registered with the Scottish Social Services Council within a specified time.

This post is considered Regulated Work with Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme, or undergo a PVG Scheme update check, prior to a formal offer of employment being made by Dundee City Council.
