Location : Marischal College

Duration: Permanent, Full Time - 37 hours per week

Job Purpose:

Responsible to a Team Leader as part of a team caring for the built and natural environment and creating the conditions for growth for Aberdeen through the development and implementation of an up-to-date and long-term land use and transportation planning framework and related matters to comply with statutory requirements.

The post is based in the Development Plan Team.

Progression to pay grade G13 will be dependent upon full membership of an appropriate professional body such as the RTPI.

For the Planner position - Membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute is required. For the Trainee Planner - Working towards membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute. 

We are open to applications for both Planner and Trainee Planner.  The Trainee Planner role is open to those who are currently working towards their RTPI.  Upon successful completion of this, the Trainee would be eligible for a Planner role at Aberdeen City Council 

Requirements

The post holder needs to hold as a minimum: (Trainee position)

  • Possession of a Degree (or equivalent) in Town Planning or related discipline (e.g. Geography, Environmental Studies).
  • Willingness to work towards gaining RTPI or other appropriate professional institute.

  • Possession of a Degree (or equivalent) in Town Planning or related discipline (e.g. Geography, Environmental Studies).
  • Membership of the RTPI or other appropriate professional institute.

Responsibilities

The post holder is expected to demonstrate skills and experience in: (Trainee position)

  • Good analytical and administrative skills.
  • Ability to work well with colleagues to achieve corporate objectives.
  • A good knowledge of PC systems and programmes.

The post holder is expected to demonstrate skills and experience in: (Planner position)

  • Workload planning
  • Good analytical and administrative skills.
  • Ability to communicate and negotiate effectively, including managing conflict
  • Ability to work well with colleagues to achieve corporate objectives.
  • Ability to prepare cogent reports.
  • A good knowledge of PC systems and programmes.
