St David’s High School Dalkeith is looking to a committed and enthusiastic fixed term Learning Assistant to work of part of a team supporting our pupils, as directed by appropriate teaching staff.

Our current roll stands at around 750 drawn from the towns and villages across Midlothian and from Musselburgh and south Edinburgh. We have a high number of placing requests every year from families who are attracted by the caring and inclusive ethos of the school, built on our ASPIRE values of Achievement, Service, Perseverance, Inclusion, Respect and Excellence. Our students are our greatest assets and we are very proud of their successes and achievements, particularly their consistently outstanding SQA Exam attainment and our very positive Education Scotland Inspection.

It is essential to have basic literacy and numeracy skills at Standard Grade General level or SVQ2 in Early Years Care and Education, or National Certificate unit in Childcare & Education, or equivalent competency, to enable the jobholder to communicate effectively with staff and pupils, and provide sensitive support.

The jobholder must be familiar with child development and able to respond sensitively to the needs of individual pupils.

If the post is within a Nursery Environment then the Jobholder must be registered with or obtain membership with the SSSC within 6 months of appointment. In order to register you must currently hold the relevant qualifications or be willing to work towards attaining these qualifications within the first year of registration. Working Pattern: Mon-Thu 8.30 – 3.15 pm (1 hr break), Fri 8.30 – 1.15 (15 min break)         

Weeks per year: 39

Please note that it is Midlothian Councils policy that successful applicants will be appointed to the first point on the salary scale.

Based on you working 27.5 hours over 39 weeks per year the minimum actual salary for this position is £13,909.82 per annum.
