Senior Solicitor (Commercial)

Salary: £44,934 - £53,781 
Hours: 36 per week

The City of Edinburgh Council’s in-house legal team has exciting opportunities for:

  • a Senior Solicitor to join its Commercial Law team, and
  • a Solicitor to join its Employment Law team

You will ideally have 4+ years of post-qualified experience in commercial law and be able to demonstrate a sound understanding of a wide range of complex commercial law matters.

This will include the provision of complex advisory work to senior management, ideally with a wide range of experience of major projects, complex commercial contracts (e.g. development agreements), procurement, state aid/state subsidy, public law, data protection, freedom of information, governance, RIPSA, corporate law, construction law and housing law.  Applicants will be expected to draw upon professional and commercial acumen to provide tailored legal and business solutions.

The applicant should have a positive attitude, a willingness to learn and the desire and ability to work collectively and become a key team member. The workload will be varied, challenging and interesting. You will be supported in a collegiate environment and encouraged to develop a full range of legal and other skills to advance your career with us.

The Commercial Law team currently consists of the Principal Solicitor, one Senior Solicitor, a Solicitor and a Trainee Solicitor.

The team provides critical advice to the organisation across a wide range of matters. The Council has 19,000 employees and has exciting and ambitious projects to ensure that Edinburgh is a forward-looking and sustainable capital city. You will have a key role to play in achieving the Council’s objectives.

The position advertised is a full-time position, working 36 hours per week. The position provides excellent benefits including access to the relevant local government pension scheme.
