Job description

Do you have a passion for working outdoors?

Do you want to join a dedicated and diverse team managing forests in Scotland and develop a wide range of skills and knowledge?

Forestry and Land Scotland (FLS) are an executive agency of the Scottish Government, and we are looking for motivated individuals who are looking for a rewarding and diverse career as an Area Civil Engineer to lead the team of Civil Engineers in the West Region.

The Civil Engineering team plans, designs and manages a network of forest roads and associated infrastructure, including bridges and extractives sites (Quarries). The forest road network supports land management and particularly the harvesting and marketing of timber from Scotland’s national forests and land.

This role is for you if:

You enjoy a high level of autonomy and responsibility as you manage a team to take on projects through to completion.

You are a creative problem solver that can find low-cost solutions to practical problems whilst managing the risks to health, safety and the environment. You have a keenness on project and budget management and monitoring. You enjoy managing teams and communicating with other colleagues, contractors, customers, communities and other Stakeholders.

As an Area Civil Engineer, you will be required to carry out site visits across the region and work regularly from our three main offices in Oban, Lochgilphead and Fort William. As such, an element of this role will involve travel to other offices with occasional overnight stays.

This is a full-time post working 37 hours per week; however consideration will be given to candidates who wish to work an alternative working pattern.

Closing date: 13 November 2023.
