We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic individual to join the ICT Function, within the Council’s Neighbourhood Services and Infrastructure directorate located in Kirkwall, Orkney.

The responsibilities of the postholder includes database systems administration, database solution design, software development and maintaining contracts related to database systems, including procurement. The postholder will be required to manage and develop our existing databases and processes, in accordance with our information and data strategy, as part of our wider Digital Strategy.

We are looking for someone who has experience of administrating, designing, developing, maintaining and implementing Oracle/SQL relational databases including managing and maintaining backings, working with tables and ensuring the integrity of our databases and management systems.

The successful applicant will be experienced in working with Oracle/SQL relational databases and will be educated to SCQF level 9 in a relevant discipline or has a minimum of 5 years’ experience of working in a relevant role.

The postholder will be eligible to join the Local Government Pension Scheme which is a career average revalued earnings (CARE) defined benefit scheme for which the employer contribution paid is currently 17.6% in addition to the salary paid. Life insurance, a good flexi scheme and good annual leave is also available.

This is a career grade post and salary will be linked to progression through a career development scheme.

This post is subject to Basic Disclosure Scotland clearance.

You should be able to travel efficiently and effectively between various work locations within Orkney to meet the operational requirements of the Service.
