Principal Teacher of History & Modern Studies

We are looking for an enthusiastic and skilled Principal Teacher of History and Modern Studies join our Social Subjects team. You will be a skilled and enthusiastic educator, fully committed to the learning and teaching approaches of Curriculum for Excellence and to inspiring and motivating pupils.

As Principal Teacher, you will work with your colleagues to create and deliver your own Department Improvement Plans to continue the success and increasing opportunities for pupil uptake and participation in these subjects. In addition, you will be part of the wider leadership team of the school, taking a lead role in delivering our School Improvement Plan. Commitment to collegiate working, self-evaluation, professional development, and maximising opportunities for all pupils is essential.

The ability to teach History and/or Modern Studies at all levels up to Higher/Advanced Higher is essential.

Stromness Academy is a six-year secondary school on a well-appointed campus in Orkney, which is frequently voted the best place in the UK to bring up children. Our catchment area covers the town of Stromness and the West Mainland, a dispersed population with over two thirds of our pupils being bussed into school. The small size of our school (approximately 350 on roll), and our classes, means we know our pupils well and are able to be flexible to meet their needs. You must be registered, or in the process of registering, with the General Teaching Council for Scotland. Salary will be based on Point 2 of the Principal Teacher scale of the SNCT Salary Tables plus a Distant Islands Allowance. We offer a generous relocation package.
