About the department

The Test & Implementation team (50+ team members) is an exciting place to be! We look to design and develop strategies that drive and organise to automation focused processes – concentrating on quality assurance and fast delivery to market. We have a complete ownership of crating test automation solutions, designing automation frameworks and leading the implementation test strategy. We define automation best practises aligned with abrdn business goals and align with processes and tolls, ensuring quality of work delivered is high. We provide test solutions for cutting edge wealth management application and products for a global investment company.

About the role

We are seeking a Test Automation Engineer to report to the Head of Testing & Implementation to join our growing test automation team. This is a hybrid role requiring 3 days per week in the office

In this role you will work closely with the automation test team, provide technical contribution in design, maintenance and execution of the automation framework and tests, and will ensure adoption of the framework across the QA teams in the organisation. With experience in modern testing techniques and tools, including non-functional test automation, you will be responsible for designing, development and maintenance as well as execution of automation framework and scripts.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Collaborate with multiple teams to define requirements and tests

  • Identify, record and thoroughly document defects

  • Test estimating, prioritizing and coordination of test activities

  • Developing and maintaining automated test data

  • Delivery of different testing milestones

  • Automation CD/CI Pipeline (development and maintenance)

  • Supporting defect management process & delivery forums

  • Ensuring compliance and contributing to our test automation strategy

Minimum candidate requirements:

  • Ability to demonstrate fluency in scripting programming language (Java / JavaScript / C#)

  • Proven experience working with test automation, manual test execution and continuous integration tools (JIRA / Azure DevOps)

  • Experienced with version control systems and variety of OS systems

  • An ability to multi task, problem solve as well as develop and meeting project deadlines

  • Can execute test plans & scenarios as per the test strategy, update test results and prepare daily execution reports

  • Demonstrative strong team work, independence, interpersonal, organization and communication skills

Preferred candidate skills and experience:

  • Experienced in Agile design methodology & collaboration with team members across the business disciplines to drive productivity and quality enhancements

  • Good analytical, troubleshooting and communication skills and ability to raise concerns ahead of time

  • Ability to follow up defects, design gaps with BAs, Developers and solution designers

  • Passion to learn, improve and adapt, even if you do not now or have all of the above
