Duration: Permanent, Full Time

Roles that require PVG Membership

Please note that with effect from 1 April 2023, where a role requires PVG membership, candidates will be required to meet the cost of the PVG membership. This applies only to roles with a full time equivalent salary of £30,000 and above. (Teaching roles and jobs at Grade 12 and above (currently £32,555 per annum / £16.92 per hour)

The Council will pay for the PVG membership cost initially, either £18 for existing PVG scheme members, or £59 for non-members, and this cost will be deducted from an employee’s first FULL month’s salary payment.

job purpose/about the role

To manage a team of social workers based in multi-disciplinary teams in adult mental health services, providing a social work and care management service to people with mental illness/mental health problems in Aberdeen City.

To undertake all Mental Health Officer (MHO) functions under the Mental Health (Care and Treatment)(Scotland) Act 2003 (The 2003 Act), Criminal Procedure (Scotland) Act 1995 (the 1995 Act) and Adults with Incapacity (Scotland) Act, 2000 (the 2000 Act) and all other relevant, applicable and ancillary legislation as an independent professional on behalf of Aberdeen City Council and to act as specialist consultants to a wide range of others.

The post holder needs to hold as a minimum:

  • Professional Social Work Qualification (BA in Social Work or equivalent i.e. DIPSW/CQSW)
  • SSSC Registration
  • PVG
  • MHO registration

 

The postholder is able to demonstrate:

· Commitment to developing and improving Social Work in Mental Health services

  • Experience of Child, Adult and Community Protection work
  • Experience of using quality assurance/performance management to improve practice

· Evidence of sound social work value base

· Demonstrable ICT skills

· Ability to manage constant and potentially competing demands

· Ability to respond creatively to resolving problems

· Highly developed interpersonal skills

  • Ability to communicate effectively with service users, staff, carers and internal/ external professionals to achieve improved outcomes for service users

The post holder needs to be able to demonstrate an understanding or experience of:

  • Practice, policy, procedures and legislation relevant to the post
  • Working with and implementing risk assessments and risk management plans
  • Health and safety requirements
  • Adult Protection and Child Protection
  • Anti-discriminatory practice
  • Working directly with service users with mental health issues, this may include people with co-occurring substance misuse and other disorders, their families and carers
  • Multi-disciplinary working
