As owners and operators of specialist vessels, from harbour workboats to oceangoing support vessels, we provide world class integrated maritime services both in the UK and abroad.
Our vessels provide a range of support, which include for example: dive support, military training, submarine rescue exercises, target/test equipment deployment/recovery and passenger transfers.
This rotation for this role is 6 weeks on/3 weeks off. The vacancy offers an exciting opportunity for the right applicant to support a professional multi-skilled team providing support to the Raasay Ranges out of BUTEC for customers who expect and deserve the best service.
We have a vacancy for a Second Engineer who will be responsible for the day to day running of the Engine Room Department and in maintaining an environment which is without risk to the health and safety of engine room staff, other crew members and the environment. The Second Engineer will report (whilst on board a vessel) to the Chief Engineer and/or Master, with regular contact between crew/Operations team/Technical and Marine Superintendent and clients.
Main Accountabilities:
- Carry out planned/emergent maintenance and repair work for continuous survey of all propulsion, auxiliary and deck machinery, air conditioning, domestic installations, boilers, fittings and structures both within and without the machinery room spaces after discussions regarding work programme with Chief Engineer.
- Supervise work on main engine and auxiliaries, ensuring planned and co-ordinated performance of maintenance duties.
- Be in the engine room during manoeuvring and trial periods (with short breaks yet remain readily accessible).
- Monitor, control and document the use of spare parts and stores.
- Operating at all times in compliance with Flag and Class legislation / guidance and Serco Maritime, Integrated Management System and Serco Limited policies.
- Liaise with the other members of the crew in order to give feedback and early warning to the Chief Engineer concerning any practice, item of plant or machinery which might be a potential hazard.
What you’ll need to do the job
- MCA Certificate of Competency as 2nd Engineer (3000kw as a minimum)
- STCW Basic Safety Qualifications (Incl. refresher courses as required).
- Unrestricted ENG1
- Methodical in approach
- Due to nature of the contract the successful candidate will need to be capable of achieving Security Clearance.
