Location: St. Machar Academy, Aberdeen
Duration: Fixed Term/Secondment, Full Time
Roles that require PVG Membership
Please note that with effect from 1 April 2023, where a role requires PVG membership, candidates will be required to meet the cost of the PVG membership. This applies only to roles with a full time equivalent salary of £30,000 and above. (Teaching roles and jobs at Grade 12 and above (currently £32,555 per annum / £16.92 per hour)
The Council will pay for the PVG membership cost initially, either £18 for existing PVG scheme members, or £59 for non-members, and this cost will be deducted from an employee’s first FULL month’s salary payment.
job purpose/about the role
To contribute to the management of the school/service and the delivery of quality education through the appropriate involvement of the pupils, staff, parents, multi-disciplinary agencies and the community it serves. This will be done in accordance with the Authority’s Strategic Plan, the school’s/service’s Development Plan, National Priorities, Local Improvement Objectives, in accordance with current legislation, and within national and local agreements.
This is a key improvement priority area and will help mitigate for some of the negative aspects of Covid which deprived young people of opportunities to develop their communication skills and confidence. https://speechandlanguage.org.uk/media/3753/speaking-up-for-the-covid-generation-i-can-report.pdf The successful candidate will work with primary schools to develop oracy opportunities and skills as well as help embed oracy within our BGE curriculum
The post holder needs to hold as a minimum:
- Appropriate teaching qualification
- Full GTC (Scotland) Registration in the appropriate subject/sector
- PVG scheme membership
The postholder is able to demonstrate:
· provide professional leadership and support to colleagues within Faculty/assigned area of responsibility · manage assigned financial and physical resources · lead curriculum development and quality assurance · where required, lead, implement and manage whole school policies including, where appropriate, guidance and pastoral care · review and support professional needs, and performance of colleagues through continuous professional development · work in partnership with parents, other professional, agencies and other schools |
meet and maintain the professional standards which are set by GTCS Code of Conduct and participate in the Scheme of Professional Update in accordance with the requirements set by GTCS
