About Elixir Distillers

Elixir Distillers is a creator, blender and bottler of fine spirits, combining delicious, characterful liquid with beautiful design. Their expertise is primarily Scotch whisky and rum but they also work with tequila and other spirits. Core brands include Port Askaig, Elements of Islay, Single Malts of Scotland and Black Tot which they export to more than 20 international markets. A range of new brands are currently being developed across different spirits categories to be launched in the next few years. 

Elixir Distillers have recently purchased their first production site, Tormore Distillery, in Speyside and work has also just begun on Portintruan Distillery on Islay.

Overall objective of role

These roles are the foundation of our operations and will support the distillery with all activities and processes involved with the operation of the distillery bio plant, alongside working within the on-site maturation warehouses and all future site-based filling/disgorging activities.  As a small hands-on team these are cross functional roles and offer exciting opportunities for those who want to be a part of a company with ambitious growth and expansion plans.

Key Responsibilities

Warehousing

·       Ensure safe movement of spirit that encompasses cask filling, transport, warehouse, cask intake and removal, disgorging and empty cask management.

·       You’ll move spirit in casks manually and / or with the use of a FLT and other cask handling devices

·       A sizeable proportion of the work will involve bending, twisting, turning, stooping, some over-reaching and standing for prolonged periods

·       Understanding and working to warehouse removal schedules

·       Complete documentation and accounts accurately 

·       Stock control & transfer of information to meet HMRC accounting requirements

·       Operator Asset Care, including basic routine maintenance tasks and cleaning

·       Complete work in Windows based and other operating software packages

·       Routine compliance checks for environmental, food and feed safety, risk management and HMRC 

·       Target monitoring relating to health and safety, environmental impact, production planning and cost efficiency

Bio-plant

·       Order, receipt and store Chemicals and Consumables

·       Operation of bio-plant, and associated equipment, to ensure distillery effluent is treated and disposed of effectively, minimising the site's impact on bio-diversity

·       Analysis of effluent to ensure with company and legislative (SEPA) standards at time of disposal

·       Complete documentation and accounts accurately 

·       Operator Asset Care, including basic routine maintenance tasks and cleaning

·       Operate a computer based process system (SCADA) 

·       Complete work in Windows based and other operating software packages

·       Routine compliance checks for environmental and risk management 

·       Target monitoring relating to health and safety, production efficiency, energy management, environmental impact, production planning and cost efficiency

Distillery Production Support

·       Order, receipt and store Chemicals and Consumables

·       Prepare new spirit and dispatch by road tanker, including HMRC paperwork 

·       Complete documentation and accounts accurately 

·       Operator Asset Care, including basic routine maintenance tasks and cleaning

·       Complete work in Windows based and other operating software packages

·       Routine compliance checks for quality, environmental, risk management and HMRC 

·       Target monitoring relating to health and safety, product quality, production efficiency, energy management, environmental impact, production planning and cost efficiency

·       Full compliance with all statutory regulations and internal procedures pertaining to site risk, Food & Feed Safety, HMRC and environmental constraints

Requirements

Key skills and Knowledge

·       Experience of  warehouse / plant / process operations in any of the following environments - distilling / maltings / brewing / warehousing / bio-plants / food manufacture / petrochemical / pharmaceutical

·       A working knowledge and understanding of health and safety, HMRC and environmental risk management principles, including all relevant legislation.

·       A working knowledge and understanding of electronic and paper business systems as a means of communicating, recording and accessing information

·       Roles involve both team and lone person working that requires effective decision-making and problem-solving skills as well as an ability to use initiative to adapt pre-set work plans 

·       Demonstrate ability to develop new skills and train others

·       Awareness of Forward Incident Control responsibilities

·       Ability to monitor low risk contractor / 3rd party activity

·       Ability to compile and review work instructions and risk assessments

·       A valid UK drivers license

·       Certified in FLT and tractor driving operations (desirable but not essential, training available)

·       Manual handling experience (desirable but not essential, training available)
