Location: Kincorth Social Work Office, Faulds Row, Kincorth, Aberdeen

Duration: Permanent, Full Time

Roles that require PVG Membership

Please note that with effect from 1 April 2023, where a role requires PVG membership, candidates will be required to meet the cost of the PVG membership. This applies only to roles with a full time equivalent salary of £30,000 and above. (Teaching roles and jobs at Grade 11 and above (currently £30,727 per annum / £15.97 per hour)

The Council will pay for the PVG membership cost initially, either £18 for existing PVG scheme members, or £59 for non-members, and this cost will be deducted from an employee’s first FULL month’s salary payment.

Successful applicants will be responding to children who may be in need of care and protection, working with families where children and young people may have experienced trauma. The post is rewarding, and relies on a clear understanding of the National Practice Model GIRFEC, as well as a sound knowledge of Child Protection, within the field of Children’s Services. Applicants must have good communication skills and should be committed to or have experience of multi-agency working.

The post holder needs to hold as a minimum:

  • HNC Childcare and Education or equivalent or
  • HNC Social Care or
  • A relevant diploma/degree qualification with experience of working with children & families
  • PVG

The postholder is able to demonstrate:

  • Child development, parenting capacity, environmental factors and risk and protective factors relevant to establishing the needs of an individual child.
  • Supporting children and young people who present challenging behaviours and complex needs.
  • Statutory frameworks and guidance for children’s social work
  • Systemic approaches and model of interventions with children and families
  • Working with families to minimise the impact of conflict.
  • The roles and responsibilities of key agencies and their statutory responsibilities
  • The ability to actively support and promote Equal Opportunities
