What to Expect

This is a commercial finance role with an element of FP&A supporting the Post Office products and branch network, back-office systems, and change.  It provides accounting guidance and analysis to support the business in key decision making. Reporting to the Head of Finance for Network and Remuneration you will focus on supporting the Network programme team and the wider retail team.

This is a senior manager position will full ownership and accountability of reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and decision making.  Lead budgeting and forecasting process to deliver a robust plan within the guidelines and timetable established by the central FP&A team. Support the Retail Finance Director in communicating requirements, collating data, and producing consolidated reports producing insightful month end variance commentary to feed into various reporting streams. Responsible for maintaining a consolidated register of income/cost Risks and opportunities, highlight through the appropriate channels and ensure alignment in quarterly forecasts and continue to develop processes ensuring the Retail Finance team is efficient and well organised. Manage the monthly review and challenge for BU providing appropriate high-level analysis of performance, identifying risks and opportunities, and driving cost efficiency initiatives and understanding of BU P&L clearly articulating drivers of income and/or direct costs.

Demonstrate the ability to evaluate business cases for investment decisions, challenging assumptions and ensure compliance with governance, making recommendations to improve return on investment. Drive a commercial focus and challenge to strategic planning and decision making within the business unit whilst providing expert advice and independent view to the finance leadership team and other stakeholders.

What you’ll need to succeed

  • Fully qualified accountant with CCAB recognised qualification (e.g., ACA, CIMA, and ACCA)
  • Good understanding of finance systems (particularly SAP, Power BI, and Business Objects packages)
  • Significant experience in a ‘commercial’ finance environment operating at a senior level.
  • Knowledge of business case and investment appraisal processes.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to effectively summarise and interpret data to senior non-finance business leaders.
