The roles’ primary purpose is to provide leadership managing the day-to-day operations within the casting plant. The Team Leader’s role is to drive consistently high standards and performance of safe clean production.

As part of the below core tasks it is the responsibility of the Team Leader to ensure they follow all required Safety Procedures (eg Take 5, Risk Assessment) while carrying out their work. They must also proactively promote and participate in HSE & continuous improvement initiatives within the department, for example the reporting of Safety Hazards and being involved in improvement activities.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Team Leader must be fully conversant with all operational roles and able to assist their team where necessary

HSEQ 

  • Be aware and ensure team compliance with HSEQ requirements     
  • Participate with safety systems as required.
  • Implement and work in accordance with site HSEQ policies, systems & procedures.
  • Stop or unsafe/hazardous situations on shift 
  • Ensure team competencies are sufficient for the tasks being performed.
  • General duty not to carry out any activity that is likely to have a negative impact on the environment.
  • Co-ordinate department response to emergency situation and carry out tasks as part of emergency plan.

 

Production & Quality 

  • Run effective department Info Centre
  • Face to face shift handover
  • Monitor and plan production schedule, modify to maximise opportunities and compensate for stoppages.
  • Minimise rework and waste generation, ensuring plant is operated according to specifications and area requirements. 
  • Identification, reporting and response to plant / process variation
  • Ensure that for any task assigned by the line manager, which the team member is competent to perform and which is safe to do, is carried out.
  • Maintain the consistent application of standards.
  • Ensure that members are competent to carry out tasks and records are kept as required.

 

Business Improvement

  • Ownership of lower level department problems as they occur, with a commitment to develop and where possible, deliver the containments and countermeasures.
  • Contribute to efficiency gains and cost saving ideas

 

People 

  • Key role is to support and coach team members.
  • Ownership and accountable for team performance to attain both daily and weekly production targets.
  • Allocate tasks within the team.
  • Communication to team members and others as required.
  • Ensure policies, systems and procedures are communicated to team members.
  • Monitor the work of the team maintaining high visibility in the field continually look for ways to improve and change tasks if necessary.

Hours of work 

Shift Pattern: 3 days on, 2 days off, 3 nights on, 7 days off

  • Have the ability to understand processes / equipment.
  • Good knowledge of up and downstream processes.
  • Information Computer Technology skills.
  • FLT training to 16t capacity
  • Floor Sweeper
  • Front end loader
  • Crane Training
