NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.

Would you like to work in a place where you will be part of supportive and welcoming team and will have an opportunity to make a difference for the patients?

We are looking for a Registered Nurse first level (Adult) to  work within Day Bed Unit on ward A at Lorn & Islands Hospital in Oban.

Day bed unit is operational Monday to Friday with core hours 7:30am to 5pm but flexibility is needed. In day bed unit we admit patients attending  endoscopy and surgical procedures.

It can be busy at times but it is very rewarding.

This is a great opportunity to learn the wide range of the nursing skills and gain experience of working in rural hospital in a beautiful and bustling seaside town of Oban.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate the ability to assess, plan and implement care for surgical patients.  Applicants should also have good communication and interpersonal skills and work well within a team.
It is desirable applicants have previous experience working in a general surgical ward, endoscopy or acute setting but newly qualified RNs welcome as induction and surgical training will be provided.
The successful applicant will work predominantly in the day bed unit but will be flexible to the needs of the service as occasionally help on the ward may be required.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay.  This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff.  This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours.  However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.  If you have any questions or concerns please contact the Recruiting Board.
