Our firm in the north
We’ve been part of the Highlands, Islands and Moray community for 20 years, but our links stretch
back more than 40 years. Our firm in the north is growing and we want you to be part of our future.

In our 20 years in the region, we’ve helped to start and develop the careers of hundreds of lawyers.
As well as clear development opportunities, you’ll get to work on varied and fulfilling cases which
really matter to the people and organisations across the area. We help individuals and families
experiencing major life events, while supporting some of the Highlands’ most high-profile businesses
and organisations such as major infrastructure providers, renewable energy companies, the marine
and rural economies, and community groups.

Your focus will be on working with clients in the north of Scotland, but there will also be lots of opportunities to work with colleagues and clients across the country and internationally. You’ll be backed up by the largest team of lawyers in the north, with the breadth and depth of a national law firm.

We are looking for a lawyer to join our Renewable Energy team.

We have an enviable list of clients – developers, investors, landowners, funders, communities and planning authorities – principally working in Scotland's renewable energy industry.

You may be a lawyer currently working in an energy role or a solicitor with a commercial property or rural background and who wishes to transfer into a dynamic and growing industry.

The role will include drafting and negotiating documents such as exclusivity agreements, options and leases for developers and landowners, carrying out due diligence on existing projects for investors and funders, assisting clients involved in the renewables supply chain and generally supporting clients with their legal requirements in this fast-moving industry. Projects are predominately in the wind, hydro, rooftop and ground-mounted solar, battery storage and marine sectors. Green hydrogen projects are increasingly attracting more attention.

The team plays a pivotal role in Scotland’s renewable energy sector and has advised on deals involving 40% of Scotland’s total renewable electricity capacity.

Harper Macleod has been inducted into The Legal 500 UK Green Guide, making us the first wholly-Scottish firm to be recognised for its work on environmental issues, governance and sustainability.

Training will be provided as required and our lawyers are all encouraged to play a part in the sector by attending industry events and contributing articles to our client bulletins.
