Ruthven Ward is a 24 bedded mixed sex ward providing assessment and care for people with dementia and associated symptoms of stress and distress. 

We would welcome applicants with awareness of current research in Dementia Care, and the use of Therapeutic Psychological and Behavioural approaches. 

The successful candidate will be motivated, demonstrate a commitment towards the continued development of patient focused care whilst fostering a therapeutic ward environment. This position would suit those who wish to extend and develop their leadership skills and be part of an evolving service that recognises the diverse and complex needs of the older person and their carers.

The candidate will be required to be able to undertake duties without direct supervision, supporting and supervising work undertaken by registered and unregistered nursing staff as well as taking charge in the absence of the Senior Charge Nurse.

The role will also be responsible for proactively promoting partnership working with patients, carers and other professionals/ agencies in line with legislative frameworks, agreed standards and clinical policies.  Supervising the practice of others, undertaking mentorship/ preceptorship responsibilities and supporting the Senior Charge Nurse to ongoing learning and development of the staff team are important aspects of this role.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay.  This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff.  This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours.  However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.  If you have any questions or concerns please contact the Recruiting Board.
