SRE Lead Engineer

Salary: Salary: £86,964 to £102,310

Location: Edinburgh

Hours: Full time

Working Pattern: At least 2 days per week in our Edinburgh office.


The opportunity

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Lead Site Reliability Engineer in the Everyday Banking Platform, where you will ensure the availability and reliability of our public cloud services which support digital journeys that excite our customers through their ease and immediacy.

The Everyday Banking Platform plays a central role in supporting our customers through their savings & current accounts, as well as providing a market leading digital customer experience for servicing their debit and credit cards. What you’ll do

  • Lead a self-organised team of SREs to provide and evergreen the public cloud infrastructure which will host our Everyday Banking Digital services.

  • Be a technical leader both within your team and in the wider lab and platform, coaching and/or mentoring engineers, instilling in them a desire to optimise and automate.

  • Collaborate with the architects, product and engineering leads to achieve the vision and customer outcomes for your lab, helping define a strategy and identify solutions to deliver our target architecture.

  • Be curious about technology and understanding how things work. You'll influence and innovate, aiming for engineering excellence at every opportunity.


What we’re looking for

  • A capable technical leader, who takes ownership of infrastructure strategy and design, defines and maintains SLAs and SLOs, leads the team to manage incidents and recovery, and drives root cause analysis and resolution.

  • Excellent cloud engineering skills with deep working knowledge of public cloud platforms, the products and services they provide, infrastructure as code principles, containerised applications & orchestration.

  • Strong site reliability engineering skills, proficient experience in automation and scripting, performance tuning and optimisation of cloud resources, and ensuring high availability of services.

  • Diverse technical experience, you’re a strategic thinker with a proven ability to solve complex cloud operations problems, reducing technical debt and manual waste wherever possible.

  • You’re an excellent communicator, capable of engaging with diverse stakeholders across the organisation to convey concepts and articulate problems.

  • You’re an advocate for quality, measuring performance to identify improvements and can support the engineering teams with your extensive knowledge of industry best practice.
