Medical Laboratory Assistant 
Band 3 
2 x 37 hrs per week.
Permanent Full Time position.

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the laboratory department in Lorn & Islands Hospital Laboratory for 2 x Medical Laboratory Assistants. Candidates will be enthusiastic, outgoing, motivated and innovative, with good organisational skills and well developed communication skills. All training will be given in post, although experience with keyboard skills and spreadsheets are desirable.

The Oban Laboratory is run by a small friendly team, working closely together to process approximately 200 requests a day. Some morning weekend work will be expected on an equal shared rota. Within your duties listed in the job description will be phlebotomy - The collection of bloods from patients on the wards. Sample reception, where the samples are sorted and prepared for processing, entering the requests into the computer, basic laboratory tasks and monitoring laboratory stocks.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay.  This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff.  This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours.  However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.  If you have any questions or concerns please contact the Recruiting Board.
