As a Lead Solutions Engineer within the Digital team, the role will lead the engineering of the cloud platform used to support Digital’s applications. The role will work closely with the business stakeholders, development teams and IT to identify opportunities and changes such as business and technology improvements that will further support the growth of the Energy Retail business plan. In addition, it will lead the technical delivery of large projects as well as manage the delivery team, budgets, technical product backlog and all associated risk/issues.
What you’ll be doing
Lead the delivery of large technical projects, drawing in necessary resources and expertise to effectively manage within timelines and budget
Develop and create business case to secure CAPEX investment for strategic web developments.
Have an excellent understanding of web technologies and architecture, which enables you to work effectively with different teams including architecture, networking, security, operations, cloud, UNIX, DBAs and application developers (mobile / front end / back end)
Define the vision for the web technology roadmap
Define and develop web standards and best practice. Ensure a high standard of documentation is in place for the development team which helps them make best use of the cloud platform
Implement and configure monitoring tools to measure the performance and availability of the web application.
Continually patch and maintain Digital’s registry of OCI-compliant base images (built using Docker), and create Pull Requests for the applications which allows developers to then deploy, test and rollout the base image changes
Deputise in the CPO’s absence
Engineer the web architecture to support the creation of best in class customer propositions and interactions where appropriate and delivers against the business KPIs
What you’ll bring
Degree educated in relevant discipline.
Team Leadership experience and developing a team.
Experience managing budget and technical projects
Technical knowledge of platforms such as Kubernetes, Jenkins, Grafana, Prometheus, Elastic Stack
DevOps / Platform Engineering experience
Experience of Solution Design which enables you to convert business requirements into technical solutions
Basic knowledge of Utility Industry processes to fully optimise functionality for increase customer experience
Good communication skills required to discuss technical improvements and opportunities to stakeholders.
Capability to apply objective and logical decision making in a timely manner and of assessing the extent and significance on the uncertainties associated with these decisions
Have experience in the following areas:-
Coding / scripting experience. Experience with Helm 3 is optional but would be an advantage.
Cloud (e.g. Azure / GCP / AWS / Oracle / IBM Cloud). Experience with Azure and GCP is optional but would be an advantage.
Different technologies used by modern cloud-native DevOps teams (e.g. Kubernetes, Elastic Stack, Prometheus, Grafana, Redis, event driven architectures etc.).
Building and maintaining lightweight and secure OCI-compliant Base Images (e.g. Docker)
Experience of source control tools (Git)
Experience of working with security tools (e.g. Snyk for static analysis)
Experience in writing tests
Experience in continuous integration and deployment tools (Jenkins)
Have a detailed knowledge of databases such as Oracle, PostgreSQL or NoSQL
