An opportunity has arisen to Join our Operations Team in the Rodding Department. The responsibilities of the Operator is to follow all required Safety Procedures while carrying out their work. The aim of the role is to proactively promote and participate in HSE & continuous improvement initiatives within the department.
About Us
Established since 1929, ALVANCE British Aluminium, part of the GFG Alliance, owns and operates the last remaining aluminium production plant (smelter) in the UK and a connected hydropower electricity generation station located on the slopes of Ben Nevis, Britain’s highest mountain. A combination or renewable energy sources makes this site one of the greenest metal production plants in the country.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Ensure all required Safety Procedures (e.g., Take 5, Risk Assessment) are complied with.
- Proactively promote and participate in all HSE initiatives within the department such as reporting of Safety Hazards and creating standardised work procedures.
- Safely operate the various pieces of equipment within the Rodding department to produce rodded anodes at the desired output as requested and to meet the demand of the Potroom department.
- Producing and handle molten cast iron, along with all procedures and safety expectations this will require, including the additions and skimming of the material.
- Ensure quality standards are maintained with regards to cast iron quality and pin inspection, report / escalate any deviances
- Cathode casting as required.
- Loading activities including, but not limited to, ingot loading, Loading of pans and scrap carbon and unloading of deliveries of raw materials to site (using Fork lift & Front end loader)
- Move skips around the site as instructed.
- Maintain housekeeping standards within the department and carry out all housekeeping duties including deep cleaning of equipment as required
- Stripping of anodes to ensure there is a supply there ready to cast
- Unload alumina rail wagons as required
- A level of isolation understanding is required to use the Castell systems that are in place, including the use of personal and isolation locks. This will include rail line locks for alumina unloading.
- In addition to the above duties, the Production Operator will be expected to show a level of flexibility to perform other tasks associated to the safe and efficient operation of the plant.

Hours of work
Day based role
Rotational night shift
Monday to Friday, 42 hours per week
Requirements
Desirable Experience
- FLT training to 16t capacity.
- Floor sweeper.
- Front end loader.
- Crane training.
